YNF Tan Guide

Pre-Tan Prep (1 Week Out)

  • Exfoliate daily (starting 5-7 days before) using a non-oil-based scrub or exfoliating mitt.
  • Moisturise daily, leading up to 24 hours before your first tan (but NOT on the day of the tan).
  • Hair removal: Waxing at least 72 hours before. Shaving at least 24 hours before.
  • Avoid new products that could cause skin reactions.
  • Hydrate & eat clean for optimal skin condition.

Day Before / Morning Of Tan

  • Final exfoliation + shave (at least 12 hours before appointment).
  • Shower with a gentle, clear body wash (no oils, moisturisers, or cream-based soaps).
  • Do NOT apply deodorant, lotion, perfume, or makeup.
  • Wear loose, dark clothing (button-up or zip-up preferred).
  • Bring slides/loose sandals (no socks or sneakers).
  • Remove jewellery before the appointment.

Show Day / After Each Tan Coat

  • Avoid sweating or water contact until the tan is set.
  • Use a straw when drinking water.
  • Sleep in loose clothing (long sleeves + pants) to protect tan overnight.
  • Check elbows, knees, hands, and posing suit lines for touch-ups.

On Stage

  • Bring a dark towel to sit/lie on to avoid tan transfer.
  • Pump up carefully – avoid excess sweating.
  • Apply glaze/oil sparingly, only once the tan is fully dry.

Aftercare Post-Show

  • Avoid showering for at least 6-8 hours after the last coat.
  • First rinse: lukewarm water only, no soap, pat dry (no rubbing).
  • Moisturise daily after the first rinse to prolong the tan.
  • Avoid chlorinated pools, hot tubs, and saunas.

Tan Removal (After Competition)

  • Exfoliate gently with mitt and oil-free scrub.
  • Soak in a warm bath with Epsom salts or baby oil to break down the solution.
  • Repeat exfoliation over 2-3 days until skin returns to normal.
